Why are we way too concerned with other people's idea of what's pretty or ideal?

Updated: Mar 21, 2021

So how would one define the word ‘Pretty’? now if I get into the literal meaning of the word we’d know that it means attractive and pleasant to look at. But now if I try and put it the way Plato did I’d say that Plato’s account

in the symposium connects beauty and response to love and desire, but locates itself in the realm of the Forms. So according to the

theory of Forms, everything we experience is imperfect, such as beauty. Society places so much value on superficial beauty because of what it has to offer upfront, that we often forget the warm fuzzy feelings

inside. The colour of our skin dictates our beauty and that’s unfair. It’s high time that we stop considering light-skinned with European features art because we all are more than our

colour and body types and people aren’t made to fit. “So it’s time we love all shapes and shades”

Now when it comes to what’s ideal according to the set “social norms”, I feel that being ideal is an unrealistic expectation because ideal means- satisfying one’s conception of what is perfect and everyone has a different

idea of what’s perfect, so it’s not humanly possible to match to everyone’s idea of what’s ideal. And if someone does have that obsessive need to seek for everyone’s approval,

that’s also fine because everyone has their own temperament, but it’s essential to realize the fact that even if someone says something about you that is upsetting don’t get bogged down. Just think about two things,

first being the one that, did the person mean what they said to you and the second one being, is that true. And after you think about these two things you won’t feel that bad because I personally feel that if a person says

things that they don’t mean then their opinions don’t carry that much weight and if it's not true then it really shouldn’t bother someone in the

first place because it’s the truth that hurts more not made up rumours or lies. Just think about the burden that would be lifted from our shoulders if we didn’t think about what other people say and let things be………
