The second boiler blast at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation in 2 months

The recent boiler blast at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Ltd situated in Neyveli that marked a second such blast at the station in the period of a mere 2 months, the first catastrophe that occurred on may 7th in Unit VI of the power station consumed the lives of 5 workers that died on-site and 3 who suffered burns to the body. The second mishap that occurred on the 1st of July in unit V of the station which according to the official statement released by the NLC was under “scheduled maintenance” due to the previous incident at unit VI and was supposedly being resumed for testing purposes at 10 am when the blast occurred, the blast took the lives of 6 workers who died on the spot and 17 who took burns to the body out of which 16 were said to be in severe condition and were transferred to healthcare services in Chennai followed by which 5 of those patients succumbed to their injuries increasing the death toll to 11 as of 6th July. The state-run company has launched an internal investigation into the matter which is being headed by the director of NLC. A compensation package of 3 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased, 1 lakh for workers suffering major burns and 50,000 for workers suffering minor burns has been announced by chief minister Palaniswami in the public interest.
