The stunning YA Urban Sci-Fi/ Romance, Obsidian is one of the most popular books since its release to date among Young Adult books Readers. Obsidian introduces a whole community of aliens who take refuge on Earth due to the destruction of their planet, Lux. Through the years, the Luxen, people from planet Lux, built up colonies at various places whole over the Earth. All Luxen poses the ability to harness light, they call it ‘the source’. The Luxen have one common enemy, the ones who destroyed Lux, the Arum. The Arum are the creatures of the dark who feed on the source of the Luxen.

Katy Swartz, a 17-year-old girl moves to a remote town, Ketterman, West Virginia. Dealing with the loss of her father, she and the mother are in desperate need of a fresh start. She quickly befriends a quirky, bubbly girl of her age, Dee Black, and meets her hot but arrogant, douchebag twin brother, Daemon, who, at the beginning don’t exactly get along. Their back-and-forth banter is a constant throughout the story.

Daemon Black and Dee Black lost their brother Dawson Black just a year ago. Dee, Dawson, and Daemon were triplets. His brother’s death still being fresh in his mind, Daemon keeps everyone at arm's length. And that plan of his is ruined due to the arrival of his new neighbour, Katy Swartz. And her friendship with his sister only complicates his situation. From time to time, he tries his best to push Katy away from his and his sister’s life, but she is going nowhere. He claims to protect Dee, but Katy was in for a huge shock on realizing the actual reason.

Accidently, Katy finds out the Blacks’ secret as Daemon reveals his “talents” by accidentally stopping time. Luxen tends to avoid using Source around Humans or healing them, as this results in humans absorbing the residual source which leaves a ‘trace’ around them. Arum can see the trace which would be bad for the Luxen as the Arum would know of their existence in that particular area. Due to Daemon’s “show with his source”, Katy is traced which leaves her vulnerable to the Arum. Therefore, Daemon tags along with Katy until the trace fades off. They both keep pushing each other’s buttons, try to play off their mutual attraction, but they don’t realize that they are the ones for each other... till the end.

The first book introduces the existence of Luxen and Arum who lived secretively on Earth blending in with the humans. Jennifer Armentrout does a wonderful job at introducing the ever-existing Aliens on Earth. The first book also acts as the foundation of Katy’s and Daemon’s relationship. The actual plots and twists appear in the second book of the series- Onyx. Little do Daemon and Katy know about the challenges, hardships, and losses awaiting them in their near future.

Obsidian is a must-read for all the urban fantasy/ Sci-Fi/ YA Romance Readers out there. It is also a great read for those who want to get into these genres of reading. Jennifer L Armentrout with her ever-growing number of published keeps on proving that her books touch the hearts of their readers, they have a story to deliver that never ceases to amaze and captivate its readers.
