Born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, Austria - modern-day Croatia -,Nikola Tesla was (and still is) one of the greatest inventors and scientists of all time. Many people have said that his ideas and designs were ahead of his time. Nikola Tesla is largely known for his phenomenal contributions to the design/platform of the modern alternating current electricity supply system. He was the fourth child of a conservative Roman Catholic Priest. His parents were Milutin and Duka Tesla. He had four siblings; Marica Kosanović, Dane Tesla, Angelina Tesla, and Milka Tesla.

During his school days, Tesla exhibited the characteristics of an intelligent student. He showed interest in many subjects and could solve even the most complicated mathematics questions. He was well-versed in eight languages and reading was one of the things he indulged in. After Tesla finished his studies, he worked in numerous places, devoting all of his knowledge and proficiency towards new inventions and innovations.
In 1884, Tesla was hired by Thomas Edison. After a while, Edison asked/challenged Tesla to help him redesign his inefficient motors and generators, reputedly offering to give him several thousand dollars in exchange for his help. After Tesla fulfilled the challenge, however, Edison repudiated his promise and this act caused Tesla to quit his job in 1885, which was a year after he had joined. Edison contemplated the direct current better, while Tesla believed that alternating current would be efficient as it could be carried from one place to another quite easily. It was Nikola Tesla who burnished the alternating current (AC) transmission technology. Using Faraday's principles, Tesla and George Westinghouse built/assembled the first hydroelectric power plant at Niagara Falls, Canada in 1895.
He was the one who theorized that radio waves could be sent anywhere/all around the world, and today, we use that from the internet to space research. He also invented the radio coil which operates many things such as telephones, TVs, cell phones, and radios. Nikola Tesla laid the foundation/basic structure for present - day’s wireless technology.
In 1900, he spent most of his time engaging in a big project. He planned to create a wireless communication system for the world, and quickly got some investors for what would undoubtedly be an expensive project. After the work and extensive planning started, the investors started to lose faith in his plan and dropped out. Eventually, Tesla himself had to leave the project due to lack of money/funds, and in 1917 he was officially declared bankrupt.
On 7 January 1943, Tesla, 86, passed away due to coronary thrombosis in New York City, where he had lived for more than half a century.
Only after his death, did the US Supreme Court recognize the brilliance in Tesla’s inventions, especially the ones regarding the radio and communication systems.
Thankfully, the legacy of the work Tesla left behind him lives on to this day, continuing to nurture young minds.
