Indian Institute of Technology- On Tuesday, IIT Madras launched the world’s first-ever online degree (B.Sc) and diploma courses in programming and data science. Anyone who has passed the class 12th examination can enrol in the course. Moreover, there is no age restrictions for learners.
“As formal academic programs in data science are only just emerging, there is a huge gap between the demand for data scientists and the supply of suitably qualified applicants in the job market. The throughput of traditional classroom programs is limited and will not be able to provide the numbers needed to meet the upcoming requirements. Online teaching has the potential to train much larger numbers, but delivering scale without diluting quality has proven to be a challenge until recently. Our program, therefore, aims to create a thoroughly trained programmer, proficient in application development, data sciences and machine learning,” said Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras in his address.
It is a pleasure to see some great Indian universities finally responding to COVID-19 as a problem that isn't going to go away anytime soon. The impact of the novel Coronavirus on the Indian education system is eminent to all. Prestigious institutions such as IITs differing from their everlasting admission test the JEE makes it all the way more prominent. In the past week, IIT BOMBAY also declared that they'll be holding classes online for the whole year and the other IITs are likely going to follow suit.
