Fantastic Mr. Fox

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a children's novel authored by Roald Dahl, published in 1970. Roald Dahl is known for his quirky, imaginative tales with a hint of darkness in them. His books are filled with limericks, rhymes, made-up words, and creative illustrations. It is definitely a task to translate this into a film. But Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) is a perfect retelling of a story from the pages of a book onto the Big Screen.

Mr. Fox, a family man, goes back to his ways of stealing, unable to resist his animal instincts. However, he finds himself trapped when three farmers decide to kill him and his kind. A seemingly simple story, the Fantastic Mr. Fox is a tale of family, love, adventure, and broken promises. Mr. Fox is a criminal turned journalist who lives with his wife and son, and a temporary addition to the family, Cousin Kristofferson. He partners up with a slow but kind possum by the name of Kylie, and the two of them thieve from the wealthiest businessmen in town. Eventually, they are found out and this starts a chase between the two groups. The film is directed by Wes Anderson, who is known for his distinct style. This movie has its characteristic features, including subtle colors, a sense of symmetry, and charming quality. It is a stop motion movie and watching it will make you appreciate the painstaking craft of stop motion cinema. The film is light-hearted and humorous but it also covers some important themes. Supporting your family, the impacts of breaking promises, and the selfish nature of the wealthy are some of those themes. If you're someone who's grown up reading Roald Dahl, or are a fan of Wes Anderson, or just want to watch a relaxing, wholesome movie, this is the best option for you!
